We have a large mature white grapefruit tree in our back yard. It produces way too many fruit for me to keep up with. I’m always looking for ways to not waste the fruit. If you have a fruit tree you can’t keep up with like me, you can find a local food bank to donate to, (check out foodforward.org) find new recipes to cook, and what I did this time, make a natural sugar scrub.
the great thing about this recipe besides it being all natural is that you can tweak it to your liking. More sugar to exfoliate, more oil to moisturize and any citrus fruit like lemon, orange or grapefruit. Smells divine!
What I used was:
3 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup olive oil
1 cup grapefruit juice about 2 grapefruits
jest of 4 grapefruits
This is so inexpensive and simple to do. You can have your children help you make gifts for their teacher, grandma, or a friend’s birthday.
Once I mixed all the ingredients, I scooped not poured, (so I would have the right consistency since the sugar and oil naturally separate) into clean baby food jars. Here’s where you can re-purpose those saved salsa jars or buy some nice mason jars. Fancy it up by printing labels that can read the ingredients and how to rub on a clean body in the shower to exfoliate.
Remember these scrubs should never be used on your face.
Scrub and enjoy!
